Spam, friend or foe?

I've been doing a lot of hush, hush kinda stuff lately; and most of the time it's boring so I end up thinking. Recently I've been taking a harder look at proper javascript, and the actual ratio of how many servers there are in the world, and how many hackers. I could be all internet like and put numbers and calculations and pretty little Excel (or if I borrow Ron's MacBook, Numbers) charts, but I won't. This is what I'm thinking...

I'm not a criminal so I usually don't really care if Google index's this, or doesn't actually delete my email there, or any other company for that matter. Why? Well, even if I was a criminal, there was a good chance I might get overlooked. I'm not going to start fantasizing about how a hacker criminal could hide amongst the buzz of spam, but rather, the right to privacy in the world.

In my personal logic tree of life, I actually believe that the steady drop in crime throughout this century and last was due to the refining and longevity of communication awarded to the human race, and as of late, the issue of presence. I find this all gives some humans more then others the ability to solve normally basic problems that would sometimes result in heartache and frustration. Basic outlet's for anger and criticisms are now a stock of anyone with a light sensing device and another device (Best Buy) to display the visions. The town chant has dissolved into video comments left like notes on the fridge, and the violence died down to 'I no were u live.' brought to you by Google Earth™ and Darpa's need for a nuclear proof addressing system for small bits of bytes. Even people normally considered prime electorates for a prime stoning, are stoned and getting deals with CBS for a reality TV show.

If privacy is concern, I say turn on 50 radios in your room on different channels and pretend to be the government, trust me it's barrels of laughs. Can you make out anything? No? Good, you win! The basis for this experiment is that from the 50's to the 90's this kinda thing was impossible. No-one could cut through enough interference to actually track much. The only reason they'd track overseas calls (you hear that all the time, 'I'm in ur telco, stealing your voice') was because it was expensive and most likely used for sinister use if it wasn't some elite paying loads for long distance calls.

Years after 2000, involves computers, of course...

Someone important to me once told me something that I've kept close. 'Humanity will never achieve full Artificial Intelligence. Why? Because in all essence a human cannot teach a mistake; and that's humanity.'

Sure, there is thousands of computers processing your calls, your mail, your movements, but consider this; as the world grows so do the sources of information. The internet is not stable enough to actually help tracking any of this data, just like the fifties, even internationally; because we can't help but make it. So join in with me and help make everyone's life private; can anyone MSN me?

Machinima

I've recently put together some Machinima for Current's new V-CAM. I had tonnes of fun with the gang to put them together, and we're learning more and more. I had some great comments from the community there and I'm hoping to put some Pod's out soon. There's a few things coming down the pipline and I'll have more to tell when I can.

Jesus Stones

So, I started to update our outward communi-kays with the world. This is because we're kinda near the end of a hard work month and a half. Constantly working on this school, pushing some interesting technologies and as such are exhausted. I'm doing quite fine, and enjoying the subservient life of a Second Life company.

It's fun, and it's loads of work (challenging too), but now I am interested in what we're doing next. The school is our first step into something that's going to be nothing short of magical. I sometimes feel like Steve Wozniak felt like when he was developing his circuits, just this time we're doing it in a virtual world.

From adaptable AI, we call him Bob, and we're going to let him roam Second Life and learn. With plugin's for Google, Wikipedia, Technocrati, among others, he'll be Web 3.0 ready, and willing to learn. We'll have him take video and snapshots (flickr & YouTube respectively) of what he likes, and have him blog in such a manner. We think it's exciting and you're gonna see him around soon...

Today is done.

Sooooooo, today was a very busy day. It only took an hour and a half, but those flew by. I have to say that he looked like we were talking his jive. I was really pleased how the meeting went, but most of all it's what we all took out of it. Let me lay down some history here. We've never done something this big before, and it was a little nerve racking (I'll admit) for us. Though, it went smoothly and could not have gone better. We know we have the deal, but now we're just concerned with the roll out-nothing more. It's the deal that could make or break us; but I ain't worried.

The thing I lacked in the past was confidence. There was never a time I could easily have said to myself, "Man, I would totally create a company and take over the world." I mean, hell, it's just little ol' me here from Sudbury, Ontario! "Who am I?" I would ask. Then along came Mike...but that's a story for another day (sorry kids)

So, Nyla's thinking of coming over again. I keep showing everyone I know her dresses! I'll even link her here, here, and here, there, again, and for later. Check her out! She's getting more and more publicity for her work in Second Life and were going nuts here for her. We totally love it when someone who puts that much effort (here look) into something they believe in, succeed! Especially Nyla.

Tomorrow we got a meeting with Royal Bank, so I get to look forward to that tomorrow.

Overcoming the Second Bubble

I'm finally up from a long downtime. It was bad, my hard drive was kinda slow, 3,200rpm slow or some bullshit like that. I wasn't to highly impressed, but I made due. I went out and got myself a new Western Digital SATA2 drive, 250GB, 3ms seek time, 300MB/s, 16MB Cache; so all-around it's an upgrade, or a quantum leap?

I'm watching this copybot thing, and I'm actually enjoying a similarity occurring on the Internet. Right now, there is a lawsuit pending against Google, for YouTube and it's very own video hosting service, Google Video. I skimmed across the article but I had a small chuckle when I read the line "...there is a problem discovering who owns what, and what video that may be..." because it's the same thing. The infinity of the Internet allows us to receive unlimited demand. People in Second Life need to start asking themselves if they are even going to be able to secure anything they do anymore? Sure, no-one can ever take away the fact that you made it, so build a business around that.

When I think of the other companies out there, in retrospect, they seem to bring the wrong value to Second Life. Take MillionsOfUs as an example, they brought the Scion into SL for Toyota, and now anyone can have a copy-for free! (sans scripts, sorry kids) In my honest opinion they should have given the cars away for free, and let the power of Toyota's name reflect on that. Then build services for car owners.

I can't believe I have two large profile meetings in the next two days. These are small by comparison of the large bursting that's begining. I'm excited, and ready for the ride. Are you?

Well, I arrived on Kingdom of Media and was looking around. It was quite awesome to see such a great Television series here in Second Life. I told them of my past experience with Second Life video, and reality shows and I was invited to build something. So after some discussion I created a tour balloon for them, and they want to follow up. I'm much-o excitied since I love Big Brother and all the reality shows Endemol puts out! Congrats guys, and welcome to Second Life™!

There's this weird thing that was happening, and it's happening to my buddy Mike as well. Every time we get to a point where I would, or he would in Mike's case, look at the clock at a significant time, and the numbers are just synergistic. 1:23pm - 4:44pm - 4:56am - 12:34am, etc. I wonder what it signifies or if it just a stroke of luck when it happens. I've decided that it's probably the fact that we only notice the times that are like that, more so then the times that are not. Either way, it's funny. I just got back from a 3 hour meeting, then we drove up to Cypress mountain here in Vancouver, saw Teapot for the first time in a while. He's getting a pool and hot tub installed with a view of the lower mainland.
